Australian Defence Force personnel will conduct domestic counter terrorism training in the Sydney area from 7 to 18 September 2015.
Training areas will include Sydney Harbour, Pittwater and a number of public facilities and locations around Sydney. Training will also occur on Defence establishments.
The training is being conducted to ensure the ADF maintains the highest level of capability to respond where required to support national interests.
The training will be conducted during the day and at night and will involve responses to simulated terrorist incidents. Soldiers involved in the training will be carrying weapons and tactical equipment. Blank training ammunition and hand-held pyrotechnics will also be used during the training.
Local residents may notice increased movement of vehicles and military personnel, however, the training has been designed to minimise public disturbance and members of the public should not be concerned if they hear or see these activities occurring.
The ADF has consulted with the relevant authorities in preparing for this training and thanks residents and businesses for their cooperation and patience during this important training.
