Exposing the Dark Truth of Our World

Empathy Is Killed By Popular Painkiller Found In 600 Different Drugs

Every week almost one-quarter of Americans use this drug.

Acetaminophen — commonly known as Tylenol in the US and paracetamol elsewhere — reduces people’s empathy for the pain of others, new research finds.

Acetaminophen is an ingredient in over 600 different medications, including being the main constituent of Tylenol.

The ubiquitous painkiller does not just kill pain, it also kills our fellow-feeling.

Dr Dominik Mischkowski, the study’s first author, said:

“These findings suggest other people’s pain doesn’t seem as big of a deal to you when you’ve taken acetaminophen.

Acetaminophen can reduce empathy as well as serve as a painkiller.”

Previous research has also found that the drug can reduce the positive emotions of those taking it.

Dr Baldwin Way, a study co-author, said:

“We don’t know why acetaminophen is having these effects, but it is concerning.

Empathy is important.

If you are having an argument with your spouse and you just took acetaminophen, this research suggests you might be less understanding of what you did to hurt your spouse’s feelings.”

The research was carried out on 80 college students.

Half were given a dose of 1,000mg of acetaminophen and the other half a placebo.

They then read a series of stories about people who had been hurt and were asked to rate their pain.

The results showed that those who had taken the acetaminophen consistently gave lower pain ratings for the people in the story.

The researchers carried out a couple of other variations to test people’s’ empathy for physical and social pain.

Dr Way explained the results of the experiment on social pain:

“In this case, the participants had the chance to empathize with the suffering of someone who they thought was going through a socially painful experience.

Still, those who took acetaminophen showed a reduction in empathy.

They weren’t as concerned about the rejected person’s hurt feelings.”

The researchers are now moving on to ibuprofen to see if the findings are the same.

The study was published in the journal Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience (Mischkowski et al., 2016).

  1. What is a ‘socially painful experience’ ?

EMPATHY – the ability to understand & share the feelings – ( in this case let’s be MELODRAMATIC & call it SOCIAL PAIN ) – ( a good example “there was some yukky green snot / a gooby hanging out of your nose & I said out aloud – “Oh, look you have a dirty great big green gooby hanging out of your nose,” & you got embarrassed.

Oh, for the social pain you must have suffered !”

AND – Tylanol / Paracetamol – Acetaminophen …… does this to you …… it kills off the “I FEEL SORRY FOR YOU YOU GREAT BIG SOOK – YOUR WEAK PUSSY OF A PERSON – YOU BIG CRY BABY …… capacity of the millions of persons who take over the counter & off the supermarket shelf painkillers –
It is better that you suffer in silence with nagging pains & headache to the point of depression.

The psychology of pain is thus – the longer the pain is allowed to go on – the more intense the pain becomes – the more debilitating the effect upon the sufferer.

ATT: JAGG – Dear Old Thing – this is yet another unbelievable story on my part – okay – read some psychology – I suggest New Scientist / Scientific America – even the Psychology Today website has articles which explain MIND OVER MATTER.

  2. Social pain is the domain of the
    SHRINK
In the good old days when the medical profession did at least a little work –

    1. ONE SOUGHT THE ASSISTANCE OF A PSYCHIATRIST
    2. ONE WENT TO A SHRINK AND LAY ON THE COUCH & POURED THEIR HEART OUT
    3. TALK THERAPY – IT IS CALLED TALK THERAPY

    INSTEAD
Today you take ANTI-DEPRESSANT …. prescription drugs which are proven to cause brain damage / turn your brain into JELLO – so it is quite okay to prescribe DANGEROUS Anti-Depressants to a patient but pain killers lead to ANTI-SOCIAL EMPATHY.

Maybe the medical profession – who are believed to be – of the biggest users & abusers of prescription painkillers & other drugs should be investigated – for their “I don’t give a shit” attitude towards the suffering of their patients..

  3. Once upon a time – in the good old days – one was civilized & practical about social pain – one realized that one was of a more delicate nature & turned to the professions that was designed to help the fragile mind.

    * YOU WENT TO SEE A SHRINK
    * YOU WERE IN THERAPY
    * YOU SOUGHT PSYCHIATRIC ASSISTANCE
    * TALK THERAPY WAS YOUR FIRST PORT OF CALL

Today you pop ANTI-DEPRESSANT PILLS that destroy your mind / that turn you brain into JELLO.

Dr. Baldwin Way is cracked in the head AND there is a strong aversion on the part of the MEDICAL PRACTITIONER to assist his / her patient with relief of real & debilitating pain – the sufferer is considered to be A DRUG ADDICT – ADDICTED TO PAIN KILLERS MEDICATION.
IN FACT IT IS THE MEDICAL PROFESSION WHO

    1. DO NOT HAVE A CLUE ABOUT PAIN & PAIN RELIEF.
    2. COULD NOT GIVE A SHIT HOW MUCH PAIN YOU ARE IN.
    3. THEY ARE PAID NOT TO HELP YOU
    4. AND THEY WOULD NOT KNOW HOW IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Have you noticed that the DOCTOR types your symptoms into Google / Chrome as you speak them –
