The movie that shook the dental industry, #rootcausemovie, has been removed from Netflix. It chronicles a man’s struggle with health issues who ultimately concludes that his issues were due to a decades-old root canal and cavitation. While it can no longer be viewed on Netflix, you can watch it on Amazon, Apple, YouTube, and Vimeo. (Or just click below!)

Unless or until Netflix tells us why they took it down, we can only speculate. However, Dr. Marvin M. Pantangco III, DDS, said:

“I believe part of the reason is due to the strong letter written by the American Academy of Endodontics, American Dental Association, and the American Association for Dental Research to the major streaming outlets stating that the movie is misleading having baseless claims. Personally, I feel that Netflix has let the film industry and the public down. The company has succumbed to pressure from large lobbying organizations whose objective is to support its members who benefit greatly from the root canal procedure. The movie of a man sharing his experience, which has garnered a lot of attention because others have experienced the similar stories, has been censored and kept from distribution. Is this an issue of free speech? What do you think?”1

According to the Guardian, it was indeed pulled:

“Netflix began carrying the film 1 January 2019, and it soon met opposition from the American Dental Association (ADA), American Association of Endodontists (AAE) and American Association of Dental Research (AADR).

In a letter dated 29 January, the ADA, AAE and AADR wrote that continuing to host the film on their platform could harm the viewing public by spreading misinformation about safe medical treatments like root canals.

These associations also sent similar letters to Apple, Amazon and Vimeo, which also carried the film. As of this publication date, the film is still available for purchase or streaming on these three sites.

Dental health experts praised the decision to remove the film from Netflix, which has about 58 million subscribers in the US alone.”1

You guys, this censorship has reached levels of insanity I didn’t think were possible. (We had originally put the full movie up top but it seems YouTube found out and removed it. Thankfully, we found another one. Enjoy!)
