‘Child Abuse on a Massive Scale’: CDC Advisers Recommend Adding COVID VAXXXines to Childhood Schedule!
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s independent VAXXXine advisory committee today voted unanimously (15-0) to add COVID mRNA Transvector VAXXXines for children as young as 6 months old to the new Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedules, which will be rolled out in February, 2023.
The revised recommendations accepted today by the committee include the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 VAXXXine for children as young as 6 months old and the Novavax COVID-19 vaccine for children as young as 12.
All COVID-19 VAXXXines being administered in the U.S. to people under 18 are Emergency Use Authorized (EUA) products. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration did grant full approval to Pfizer’s Comirnaty COVID-19 VAXXXine for ages 12 and older, however, the Comirnaty VAXXXine is not available in the U.S. — which means all children who get the Pfizer VAXXXine are getting an EUA product.
When asked if an EUA product could be added to the schedule, Dr. A. Patricia Wodi, a member of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), said the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of General Counsel confirmed for the CDC that EUA products can be added.

Today, CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended updates to the 2023 childhood and adult immunization schedules, which includes incorporating additional information for approved or authorized COVID-19 vaccines. CDC only makes recommendations for use of vaccines, while school-entry vaccination requirements are determined by state or local jurisdictions.
It has been almost two years since COVID-19 vaccines were first rolled out in the U.S., and nearly 630 million doses have since been administered nationwide, providing people with critical protection against severe COVID-19. ACIP’s recommendation to add COVID-19 vaccines to the routinely recommended vaccine schedule represents another step in the nation’s recovery.
It’s important to note that there are no changes in COVID-19 vaccine policy, and today’s action simply helps streamline clinical guidance for healthcare providers by including all currently licensed, authorized and routinely recommended vaccines in one document.The updated schedules and program guidance will be published in early 2023. CDC will continue to update and work with health departments, providers, and other partners over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition of the COVID-19 vaccination program from emergency response to a routine immunization program activity.
