THE CURE That Never Comes

“Together we will beat cancer…” says the advert. “Soon…” it says.  How can we not be moved by the smiles of the happy, caring people—especially the children—all pulling together? How can we resist donating to this cancer charity, especially when a cure is “just around the corner”? Even if most of the money does go on advertising and administration costs, it surely can’t hurt. Can it?

Yes, it hurts—in terrible, unimaginable ways—it hurts.
