MORE FUNDING

The federal government recently announced they will commit an additional $100 million in funds to the World Health Organization to “prevent, prepare and respond to pandemics”.

Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong unveiled the funding package on the second day of the high-level UN General Assembly, following talks on “Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response” (PPPR).

“At the UN High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response, I announced the Australian Government will provide $75 million in voluntary core funding over five years to the WHO, and a further $25 million for the WHO’s Health Emergencies Programme.”

The release continues: “Our commitment to the WHO will support activities to mitigate the risk of future pandemics, including strengthening national health systems and responding to disease outbreaks.”

Even more funding to this unelected international ‘health’ body, even despite WHO declaring in May this year that COVID-19 was “no longer considered a global health emergency”.

Despite this, Labor has remained committed to supporting the efforts of WHO since the election, declaringthat Australia “cannot afford to turn its back” on them.

The government says it will “…work with the WHO and partners to support coordinated responses to emerging disease threats in our region, and ensure the global system meets our region’s needs.”

A ‘coordinated response’ in the form of a pandemic treaty, that is.

This $100 million is Australia’s ‘deposit fee’ for the agreement that will end our national health sovereignty and hand over our ‘best interests’ to corporate elitists.

PANDEMIC TREATY COMETH

Australia’s health department wants to be tied to WHO for the indefinite future.

Last year, both Scott Morrison and Anthony Albanese endorsed the prospect of giving more powers to the World Health Organization to “go in and deal with pandemic situations” at a press conference.

In a quote by Morrison at the time: “The idea that countries can just say ‘no, you can’t come in and have a look at a pandemic that’s about to break out’ .. I think it’s only sensible that this an area of international co-operation that is very very important”.

Fast forward 12 months, now with Albanese is in charge, and the ‘pandemic instrument’ is here.

In September, the Australian government released a consultation paper detailing their adherence to a “global accord” on “pandemic prevention, preparedness and response” moving forward.

The Australian government says in the paper that ‘our priorities have been informed by lessons learned from our national response to the COVID-19 pandemic’, as well as ‘through consultation within cabinet and targeted consultation with interest groups’.

Any finalised treaty is likely to include the condition that UN WHO ‘health troops’ would be able to be quickly deployed to any nation with an outbreak to ‘assist preparedness responses’.

Bill Gates, for example, proposed last year setting up “pandemic prevention team” called ’Global Epidemic Response and Mobilization’, or GERM, for short.

What do they have planned around the corner in the not-too-distant future?
